There is am absolutely wonderful DVD set in Russian that teaches to read based on Doman's method in Russian. It's made in Russia for Russian kids. "Kartochki Domana na DVD" - google this and you should find something like a demo on Ytube. Personally, I found it to be better far than YBCR or anything else I have seen since in either English or Russian. The set of 5-disks is expensive at around $100 + shipping, but it's worth it. I was looking for a Russian version to YBCR so that my girls would learn to read in both languages and found your web site and "Kartochki Domana na DVD", both of which I LOVE :) "Kartochki Domana na DVD" were available on razvivalki.ru, but they stopped mailing internationally recently; not sure why. But, if you have friends in Russia, they can mail it to you. You'd have to either get a DVD player that plays PAL format or rip the DVD on the computer and find a player that would play this format (VLC player is excellent and free). Another way, and that's not something I'd recommend, but this way does exist, is to get it from a torrent site.

Hi Alenka! Thanks for sharing all these infos. I just downloaded Matt Hudson's Randomizer and my Power Point cannot open it (Mine is 2003 version). Is my Power Point too old to use this program? Thanks, Amelia

Thanks, Brooke! Most of the kids figure out the phonics by themselves just from looking at the words. However, for different kids it takes different amount of time - some learn by 2, some by 3, some figure this out when they turn 5... My own son could recognize words for quite a while, but actually reading them in books and sentences - took a while for some reason. Honestly, I got a little impatient - in addition to single words/couplets that are available at this site, I've tried A.P.P. approach - I think it helped a lot. We went just through two files of words and now, at three and half, he started reading! It's hard for me to say weather he reached a special age, when it all came down to him, weather we finally went through enough words for them to start clicking (we finally reached phrases and phrases are our biggest success!), or if this combination method played a key role... either way - it worked!!!

This is a fantastic site... I have been looking for a site where I can get more in depth info to teach my baby daughter... She started watching YBCR when she was 5 months old and at 15 months I noticed she could read at least 16 words... She is now only 16 months and can read more than 50 words... I was a little worried when I read that this method wasn´t going to teach her to read new words on her own and that she would have to learn phonics, but I think like others, she will pick it up on her own after learning many more words. I am thinking of switching to the Doman method so she can learn more words faster, so we will see if that works. I will definitely start teaching her the Doman math method also... It is all so exciting... I am so glad that you have this website to help enable us to give our little ones a head start.
