      Hello,
I happened to come to your website while searching for Doman and i am so happy to see all those ppts and useful links in your website. Thanks for sharing all these. I have a 20mnth girl, whom i just begun to teach to read using home made cards and she absolutely loving them. Its been 4wks and i have so far retired 15 words. I am not sure how much she is learning, but loves to see them:))
When should i proceed to couplets? What is the clue?

      Also in the above,
      # The Classical Mommy’s Friend’s collection of Spanish books
      # HB Morgan Power Points
These links take me to a banking website… Can you check that please

      Thanks again

Before you proceed to couplets, your kid has to have accumulated some visual word vocabularly. The book indicates you should show ~200 words before you proceed to the next step, i.e. before you start with couplets. It also says that how fast you can proceed to couplets depends on the age of the kid: for a little baby - it’s better to stick to words for a while. A toddler is probably going to be more interested in couplets. With 3 year old it might work better to jump to sentences and difficult words quicker, to keep them interested.

I don’t think I was waiting for 200 words. I started showing couplets as soon as we were done with the first sets of single words described in a book. At first my child didn’t seem so interested, so I had to wait a little to introduce this step at a later time. Once you start couplets and other steps, you continue showing new single words. As you can see from our presentation sets, my own son is reading entire sentences already (and sentences are his unbeatable favorites!) , but I still continue to introduce new words to him. He is trying to figure out the phonics now, so he likes sounding them all out - whatever keeps him interested and learning works for me!

Sounds like you are doing terrific! Enjoy it!!!
